HISTORICAL SPOTLIGHT...
                                                                                              April 15, 2005
April 15th 2005 marked the formal dedication of the new state-of-the-art Pennsylvania State Police Barracks in West Bradford Township.

The new barracks is located on Leids Road and serves central and northern Chester County. The barracks houses one of the largest contingents of troopers in the State; in addition to the local patrol unit, several other investigative units are located there.

The troopers moved from a cramped building built in the 1940’s on the grounds of the Embreeville State Facility. West Bradford Township built the new facility and leases it back to the State.

Many members of the County’s law enforcement community and state legislative delegation joined in the dedication ceremonies. The new barracks is part of the Board of Supervisors efforts to ensure that West Bradford Township residents have continued professional police services without the enormous expense of a local police force.

The construction of the facility was financed against the rent received from the State and no local taxpayer funds were used.

A portion of Rt. 611 in Monroe County has been designated the Tpr. Joshua D. Miller Memorial Highway in honor of Tpr. Miller, who gave his life June 7, 2009, while helping rescue a kidnapped child.

Legislation creating the designation was signed into law Dec. 22, 2009, by Gov. Edward G. Rendell during a ceremony at the state Capitol. Among those attending the event were Miller’s widow, Angela, a former police communications operator at Troop P, Wyoming; members of Miller’s extended family; Tpr. Robert J. Lombardo, who was wounded in the shootout in which Miller died; and Commissioner Frank E. Pawlowski.

“This is a significant and richly deserved honor for a trooper who laid down his life rath er than swerve from the path of duty,” Rendell said. “We must never forget his courage or his sacrifice.”

“Josh Miller was an exemplary trooper,” Pawlowski said. “His death was a tremendous loss for the Department. His dedication will forever serve as a beacon to all those who pro-tect the public.”

Miller, 34, who was assigned to Troop N, Swifiwater, was fatally wounded following a 40-mile, high-speed chase of an armed suspect who was fleeing with his kidnapped son. The suspect was pulled over on Rt. 611 in Coolbaugh Twp. and gunfire erupted, killing Miller and seriously injuring Lombardo, 35, also of the Swiftwater station.
