Date of Incident: July 14, 2017
On July 14, 2017,Trooper Michael Paul Stewart III was
killed while traveling southbound when his SUV Patrol vehicle crashed into the side of a
garbage truck making a left turn out of a parking lot onto northbound Route 711.
Stewart's southbound SUV slammed into the side of a garbage truck (driver, John
Hissem, 26, was unhurt) making a left turn out of a parking lot onto
northbound Route 711 in Ligonier in eastern Westmoreland County. at
approximately 2:30 am.
Trooper November, Stewarts partner, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and was
taken to the hospital.
Gov. Tom Wolf also offered condolences. "We join all Pennsylvanians in
mourning his loss and send our sincerest sympathies, thoughts and prayers to his family,
friends and all the women and men of the Pennsylvania State Police, he said.
